"The most significant message I can convey to the rowing athlete
is:  Just row the race. Think about the process. Don't dwell on the result until it's history."

The 74th Annual Scholastic National Championship Regatta
Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24, 2008

Congratulations to the Women's Varsity 4+ who captured ICC's first-ever medal (bronze), and also to the Men's Varsity 4+ crew for their participation and 16th place finish in the National Scholastics regatta this past weekend in Tennessee.  The team and their parents left Chicago on Thursday morning, and enjoyed days at the site racing in Melton Lake, Oak Ridge, Tennessee and evenings in around Powell, TN at some great restaurants and just hanging out and enjoying the downtime together.

Below you will find a series of updates which were sent via email to our team by our correspondent Andrew Bauschelt from Chicago after consulting with his on-the-scene correspondent Jayne Greybar in Tennessee:

This is an ICC Nationals Final Update...
With each boat having a race under their belt, the two ICC boats looked to finish the job off in Oak Ridge, TN this afternoon. The girls' 4+ pulled out a major feat in Tennessee, finishing third in the nation.  The girls took third by .2 seconds and were .8 seconds out of second, as reported by Mrs. Greybar, our ICC correspondent in Oak Ridge. The boys finished off the banner day for ICC at Nationals by coming 16th in the nation, an amazing feat.

With both boats finishing in the top 20 in the nation, ICC closed the book on another amazing season. With both boats putting in the extra work after impressive showings at Midwest (girls-3rd, boys-4th), this is all because of their dedication.  With 8 of the 10 rowers and coxswains in the two boats being seniors, they have left a lasting impression on ICC as one of the nation's best.  Having boats place in the Top 5 in the nation for two years in a row proves that hard work and dedication can produce winning results.  Congratulations to the girls' 4+ of Meg Hlousek, Bridget Dempsey, Kate Monahan, Allie Boyaris, and Dorothy Kopczyk (cox) and the boys' 4+ of Andrew Wall, Nate Wootton, Matt Franz, Andrew Greybar and Drew Coogan (cox).

This is another ICC National Semi-Final Report...
All the rowers in Chicago might be waking up sleepy-eyed, but the two ICC boats at Nationals got up early to get the job done at Nationals. The girls' 4+ continued to prove themselves by posting another first place finish in semis.  Later today, the girls will be racing in the Grand Final, where a medal could be won!  On the boys side, their 4+ toughed out a 6th place in finish to make it to the C final, where they could place from 13 to 18 in the nation. With two boats poised to be in the top 20 of the nation, ICC has showed their competitive spirit and cemented themselves as one of the top clubs in the nation. Look for more updates later today, as both the boys and girls look for positive results in their respective finals.

This is an ICC Nationals Heat Update...
For all of you who didn't know...National Heats started today in Oak Ridge, TN.  Both of ICC's boats have qualified for semifinals held tomorrow, Saturday May 24!  The girls 4+(Boyaris, Monahan, Dempsey, Hlousek, Kopczyk) and boy's 4+ (A. Wall, Greybar, Franz, Wootton, Coogan) both raced extremely well to qualify for the semis and keep their National hopes alive. Stay tuned for more Nationals details.
